RESEARCH GRANTS BY MALAYSIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (KPM)

1. FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME (FRGS)

Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) promote basic research to generate knowledge that contribute to the intellectual enhancement, the exploration of new technologies and dynamic cultural nourishment in line with the nation's aspirations.

This research aims to boost the generation of theory, concepts and new ideas that act as catalyst in finding new discovery beyond the knowledge border and innovative creation. 2. TRANS-DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME (TRGS)

Trans-Disciplinary Grant Scheme (TRGS) includes fundamental research and exploratory to encourage knowledge creation that contribute to the enhancement of the level of intellectual, expansion of the knowledge boundaries, the creation of new technologies and dynamic cultural nourishment in line with the nation's aspirations.

TRGS build collaboration across multiple research cluster in order to put Malaysia on the world map in terms of fundamental research in a particular cluster.
This research aims to boost the generation of theory, concepts and new ideas that can be the catalyst for a new discovery beyond the knowledge border and innovative creation.

3. PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT GRANT SCHEME (PRGS)

The Fund was established for the development of prototype as a bridge between laboratory findings/research up to pre-commercialisation. This includes proof of concept, evaluation, up-scaling, pre-clinical testing and field testing.

PRGS is created to help reduce the gap between research and commercialization for the purpose of new technology creation/new findings in accordance with the requirements of the K-economy and the implementation of the New economic Model.

4. LONG TERM RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME (LRGS)

LRGS is fundamental research that involves an extensive scope; and a long period of time which requires high commitment. LRGS aim to strengthen excellence in the generation of new ideas and theories of strategic niches area to expand the knowledge boundaries.

5. RESEARCH ACCULTURATION GRANT SCHEME (RAGS)

Research Acculturation (RAGS) is a seed fund to promote research among young researchers in Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) at non-research University (RU) in preparation for developing the research performance in order to be competitive nationally and internationally.

RAGS funding follow the FRGS guidelines in terms of the definition of fundamental research, the research cluster, application methods, evaluation, monitoring and research results.

6. NICHE RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME BY MINISTRY OF EDUCATION MALAYSIA (NRGS-KPM)

Niche Research Grant Scheme, Ministry of Education Malaysia (NRGS-KPM) is a special fund intended to help boost and develop the field of thrust (Niche) research for every Institution of Higher Learning (IPTA) that hold the status of Comprehensive University and Comprehensive Focused University. Additionally, the NRGS-KPM will make each of the Universities has its own unique strengths.
Each comprehensive University and Comprehensive Focused University will be given responsibility for determining the direction and strategies in managing the research and innovation effectively resulting in the high impact products.

7. GERAN SANJUNGAN PENYELIDIKAN BY MALAYSIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (GSP-KPM)
The Higher Education Sector of Ministry of Education (MOE), aims to enhance the capacity of local universities get grants industry and internationally. Accordingly, the Geran Sanjungan Penyelidikan Ministry of Education (GSP-KPM) was created as an incentive to the University that managed to get the grants.

Research Incentives
Geran Sanjungan Penyelidikan is an incentive for the University to obtain research grants in the form of cash from the source:
(a) Industry
(b) International

Research grants obtained including contract research and clinical trials however did not include consulting projects.

8. RESEARCH ACCULTURATION COLLABORATIVE EFFORT (RACE)
RACE is a new initiative formed to pool the collective cooperation between Research universities (RU) by helping the non-Research universities to improve research culture and thus to increase the output of research publication, discovery of innovation/IP, research grants, the number of IP and others.

This initiative helps RU research partners to achieve a level comparable to that of RU in a way;
a. Assist and complement the Malaysia Ministry of Education (MOE) increase research culture among Fellow-RU research partner.
b. Create a network of cooperation among all Institutions of Higher Learning through collaborative research programs/projects and sharing of research facilities.
c. Use the same allocation of research grants for the production of multidisciplinary output.
d. Be a platform to Fellow-RU to accelerate research output.
e. Complement national higher education research ecosystem.
